The voice of Exiled Writers
Thu 21 June, Human Rights Action Centre, London
Exiled Writers event in collaboration with English PEN and Amnesty International. Once in the UK, many exiled writers and artists remain intimately connected with the continuing struggles in their own countries, expressing their resistance through their art. This can be empowering for the artist, but is it effective in shifting consciousness in their country of origin? Exiled writers from Palestine, Iraq, Zimbabwe and Uzbekistan - including Hilton Mendelsohn, Fawzi Kerim, Hamid Ismailov, and Ghada Karmi – will read from their work and discuss the issues it raises. Free but must pre-book. See details at http://www.amnesty.org.uk/events_details.asp?ID=404
